A range of body signals on 70 printable cards

What are body signals? They are signals in our body that indicate how we might be feeling.

For example, a sore tummy with pain is a body signal. It may be signaling that a person is feeling hungry, needs to go to the toilet and do a poo, is worried or is sick. The child may try different feel good actions in response, such as go to the toilet and/or eat something. If this doesn't work, perhaps talking with an adult, having a rest and possibly taking some medication or going to the doctor.

How does it all link up:

Our body sends different signals every day. A body signal in our eyes are tears, the feeling could be sadness or stress or worry or disappointment. The feel good action may be to get a hug, speak to a special person, or move onto a different activity.

These cards can help adults support a child to identify their body signals and have conversations about what feeling may be tied to that body signal. If we are to name feelings with children, then children need to be able to identify their body signals that indicate the felling. This empowers children to then go and do a feel good action in response to the body signal and feeling.

Another example:

Body signal: Child has goosebumps

Feeling: Cold, tired, uneasy

Feel Good action: Put a jumper on, go inside,

Ideas for use: Pick out the cards that may be particular to your child. Perhaps toileting or feeling sick in the tummy due to worries has been a concern. These cards support conversations with the child about what is going on in their body. Body parts: Head, eyes, ears, nose, mouth/tongue, skin, muscles, stomach, heart, hands, feet, bladder, voice. Print, Cut and Laminate.
