How crazy is running a small business/side hustle and building all these skills that you don’t generally do as part of your full time role. As a social worker, a huge part of our role is listening and then talking. Yet, through the process of building this business, I’ve had to consistently get comfortable writing about my experiences and learnings, as well as putting my face out there to share about my life as a small business owner.
I recently was listening to the audio book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, and they spoke about the importance of learning and growing. Children have such a social expectation to learn everyday, be exposed to new information and learn new skills. The book also spoke about learning marketing skills and how we can implement that with our formal training. I can definitely say that a social work degree does not talk about Tik Tok, outside of technology safety for children and child abuse.
I started my business alongside setting up my Shopify store. Which literally meant watching Youtube, and pausing at each step to actually implement it on the Shopify site. One of my biggest learnings is that I don’t like posting on Facebook and Instagram. So if you find my brand and older postings that's because it doesn’t work for me. I have come to the place where if something is so big an obstacle I struggle to even do it, then it’s better to just adapt and find a new way that works for me. Other blogs will encourage me to post on both daily, or even multiple times a day, but sorry, I just can’t. You will find me regularly creating and posting content for Tik Tok though, I love a good movie. I feel like it just comes alive and it feels authentic to who I am and the purpose of this.
I am wondering what skills you’ve had to learn as part of developing your small business, because I have definitely been on a roller coaster of learning.
