72 Feel Good Actions Cards (Printable)

What are feel good actions? They are things we do to make our body feel good and comfortable again.

For example, a sore tummy with pain is a body signal. It may be signaling that a person is feeling hungry, needs to go to the toilet and do a poo, is worried or is sick. The child may try different feel good actions in response, such as go to the toilet and/or eat something. If this doesn't work, perhaps try other feel good actions such as talking with an adult, having a rest and possibly taking some medication or going to the doctor.

How does it all link up:

These cards work alongside the body signal cards.

Our body sends different signals every day. A body signal in our eyes are tears, the feeling could be sadness or stress or worry or disappointment. The feel good action may be to get a hug, speak to a special person, or move onto a different activity and play with a toy.

If we are to name feelings with children, then children need to be able to identify their body signals that indicate the felling. This empowers children to then go and do a feel good action in response to the body signal and feeling. These feel good action cards will build up children's ideas for things they can do to feel good again in their body. Different body signals have different feel good actions, as such, we can have conversations with children about the feel good cards and when the child may think it could be useful.

Another example:

Body signal: Child has goosebumps

Feeling: Cold, tired, uneasy

Feel Good action: Put a jumper on, go inside,

Ideas for use: Let's say the child is holding the card with a shower, you may ask the child what they may be feeling to go and have a shower. The feeling could be dirty, feeling dirty. You could then wonder, I wonder where on your body you may be feeling dirty. The child may say on their skin, or in their hair, or their hands, or underarms. These cards link up the body signals, the feeling and the feel good action.
