Family Goal- Increase Technology Safety

Family Goal- Increase Technology Safety

This week's goal was about increasing tech safety in a family, which is an incredibly important conversation for families to have ongoing. It’s a conversation when they’re a toddler, pre-school, multiple times throughout primary school, and then more conversations throughout high school. What media a toddler, child, and young person consumes is different, it changes with their development, which highlights the need to keep coming back to some basic questions.

Technology use also changes, it might move from just tv, to include iPad use, Nintendo Switch, a controller, XBox, phone, to a laptop or computer.

It’s pretty simple, but the formula I facilitate for these conversations are the Who, What, Why, When, Where and How of technology and media for the family to decide.

The question cards are something that your family can reuse, the tech safety plans can be laminated and updated as your children grow and develop.

I love the question posters, they can easily be put up around a room in your home. Everyone in the family gets involved, gets invested into the plan and they have buy in because their voice and ideas are valued.

Tech safety plans in the same pack are included for three different age groups- young children, primary aged children and adolescents.
